David Thornber, a.k.a. The Beak, was headmaster at Lendrick Muir between 1965 and 1985.
He was married to Marie-France, and had three children - Mark, Valerie, and Ben who was born in the school.
He wrote: "I still can think of no better motto for a school than the one found on a bird bath outside the Art Room (Conservatory then) - AVES SATUI NON OBSUNT ( or is it OBSINT?)" - Translation = FEAR NOT TO SOW BECAUSE OF THE BIRDS
